臺灣時間 8 月 5 日凌晨，Google 宣布今年12 月淘汰 Play 音樂，功能將全數轉移至 YouTube Music。

Google 早在兩年前表示要把 Play 音樂的重要功能移植到 YouTube Music，今年 2 月更開放 YouTube Music 用戶上傳音樂內容。
今年 5 月，Google 呼籲 Play 音樂用戶購買、上傳的音樂內容可透過工具（http://music.youtube.com/transfer），將數據轉移至 YouTube Music 平台。
本月下旬，Google Pllay 音樂用戶將無法使用下載、上傳音樂功能，9 月從紐西蘭、南非開始實施，10 月陸續在全球國家停用，目標在年底正式淘汰 Play 音樂。
