Though we're still thinking about the best albums of last decade, the time has come to look ahead. The pressure is on to kickstart the not-so-roaring '20s with some good music. And some of the biggest artists of modern times are long overdue. Fiona Apple hasn't released new music since 2012 and the Dixie Chicks are coming back 14 years after their last album. Beyond that, stars like Rihanna and the always mysterious Frank Ocean are reportedly prepping new music for 2020. Below these our the 10 albums we're most excited for (hopefully) coming out in 2020.

Kendrick Lamar

Lamar hasn’t given us new music since 2017’s DAMN. The wait will reportedly be over in early 2020.

Fiona Apple

Apple’s last album, The Idler Wheel, came out in 2012. Apple teased that she hoped she’d be putting out new music this year. Fingers. Crossed.

Lana Del Rey

Del Rey, who released Norman Fucking Rockwell in 2019, has promised a spoken-word album for 2020. Granted, she sometimes drags behind a bit when it comes to hitting deadlines, but we can hope. God bless us every one.

Cardi B

Cardi B has hinted that her 2020 album is “spicy and controversial.”

Rihanna

We haven’t had new music from Rihanna since 2016’s Anti. It’s no wonder the singer keeps drawing out any information on this new album, R9, that’s supposed to show up this year. "Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it," she wrote in a December Instagram post.

Dixie Chicks

The Dixie Chicks are finally back. Yeah, they returned for a reunion tour a few years ago, but no new music. They will release a new album and go on an arena tour in 2020. Stay tuned, and let’s hope there’s a Joni Mitchell cover in it for us all.

Lady Gaga

In 2019, Gaga teased that her new album would be out next year with this clever tweet: “Rumors I’m pregnant? Yeah, I’m pregnant with LG6.” Come through, Gaga.

The Weeknd

New things are coming from the artist, who released two singles, “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights” in November. This kind of quick succession usually means there’s a lot more where that came from. The follow-up to 2016’s Starboy is on its way.

Phoebe Bridgers

Bridgers's longtime drummer and co-writer Marshall Vore announced in October on Instagram that Bridgers had completed recording for her second album, a follow-up to 2017’s Stranger in the Alps.

Frank Ocean

Though new Frank Ocean music is always something of a unicorn, the artist teased some new songs late in 2019. Adding to the speculation is an interview he did in September saying his next album is influenced by “Detroit, Chicago, techno, house, French electronic” and would have a "full motion picture fantasy.”
